Dress for success

Once upon a time, the dress code for men were fairly simple, dark suit for anything and everything; from business to work and meeting up for drinks. But the trend that speaks nowadays are of a different language. Every now and then, we are forced fed with fancy and luxuriously doctored images on fashion spreads in magazines and billboards. But are all these suits and ties really relevant to our environment? You definitely wouldn't want to impress your boss in your latest tight suit.

Most men are expected to wear a suit and a tie in office, unless your job does not require you to do that, that is either you are a performer or a busker. But for the rest of them, it is just too bad, you got to be suited up with those dark grey suit. Dark grey and blue are the colors you can expect in any banking environment. If you started work in a new environment and you don't have an idea on what dress code the office is enforced with, just observe your colleagues, you will be able to get a hint. Probably, you can see some of them that dresses up like a multi-millionaire with suspenders and those golden cuff links, whom never get promoted. You will be able to spot some who can't defy the gravity of ageing, dressing up like the date. One thing you should keep in mind is that the cloths you wear should never draw attention. Once you do that or cross that line, you will be branded for your working life in that office, unless you get promoted. Be confident with yourself, get some nice suits that are anonymous, a couple of nice ties to go with it and white shirts, you will do alright. Never be remembered by your colleagues or boss by what you wear but by your achievements. It is not the suit that wears you but you are actually wearing the suit.

Ever been tempted to dress young? The symptoms are wearing a baseball cap indoors, wearing a favorite band printed t-shirt with your blazer, pony tails and anything that reminds you of being a rockstar during your school days. Always dress your age, if you really want to dress young just because you think you are such a funky guy, try looking at a mirror first. If it's over-kill, loose some stuffs off yourself, remember, if you don't dress carefully you are a fan not a rock star.

How about those who dress too old for their age. Probably they think that this is the best way to be respected by his peers or maybe get some attention by his boss, maybe a promotion (I don't think so). Most bosses get intimidtaed by a sight like this. Symptoms: Golden cufflinks that stops at the end of each sleeve, suspenders that hold up your pants, light brown shoes that goes with dark pants and if you are crazy enough you will be walking with a cane (I bet you seen that on TV). Oh please! Dress your age! Most men knows that floral t-shirts and bermudas is not the right attire for a funeral. But you can still find some men wearing wacky outfits to a grand wedding. A decent morning suit cost as nearly $2000, you can divide it by the number of weddings you will be attending and see if it is a sound investments. If not, you can still hire one. NEVER wear a scarlet cummerbund and a matching bow-tie, you are not going for a special number. Nor wearing sneakers with the morning suit makes you look like Micheal J. Fox. For goodness sake, guys, do some research at any book stores before you buy one. What about first dates? Okay, to start it off, let me bring in the Losers first: they are the ones that wear leather trousers, top hats, leather blouson or a t-shirt that says “The one on the left is stupid!” If you think that such outfits will impress your girl the first date, I don't know what to say. The best way to do it is just wear a casual blazer, casual smart is the word.

I hope these helps, but when in doubt, always remember to dress your age and be comfortable in what you are wearing.
